Why Mommy & Me Sessions Are So Special | Calgary Photographer

I’ve been really itching to show you this beautiful mommy & me session I recently did. These images live rent-free in my head!! So much connection, giggles and love! 

There is something so extra special about those in-between seasons here in Alberta. The evenings start getting cooler, the leaves turn straight golden (!!), and suddenly the light feels softer in the most magical way. Or at least, I always notice this as a Calgary photographer!! .

We met up at our location during golden hour. And spent the evening wandering through the trees beside the water while the sun dipped low behind them. This created that dreamy golden glow that only shows up for a few short weeks each year. 

I just love these calm, playful sessions so much! 

This mama wore the coziest mocha knit sweater dress paired with cream socks and ankle boots, which was really cohesive with the warm autumn tones around them. Her daughter’s soft floral dress (similar to this one!), cream tights, tiny lace-up boots, and pink bow added the sweetest touch without feeling tooooo styled or stiff.

Everything about their outfits felt comfortable (but elevated!) and true to them, which made the photos feel even more genuine.

The Beauty of Letting Kids Be Kids

One thing I always come back to during family sessions is this: kids do not need to sit perfectly still or smile on command for beautiful images to happen. Some of the best moments come from twirling down a dirt path, collecting tiny sticks, or laughing so hard they can barely catch their breath.

That is exactly what happened during this mommy and me Session.

Instead of over-posing every moment, we focused on connection. On movement. On those little in-between interactions that parents want to remember years from now.

Why Evening Sessions Feel So Magical

After months of dark winter evenings, having sunlight back later in the day honestly feels like MAGIC. That soft evening glow creates so much warmth and depth in photos, especially outdoors near the trees and water like this.
