What to Wear for Your Session | Calgary Boudoir Photographer

You’re booking a session (yay!) and one of the first questions that goes through your mind? What to Wear for your session! That is one of the most common questions my clients ask when booking. It makes sense because choosing outfits can feel exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. What looks good in person, might not photograph well. Also, most of us second guess and overthink when it comes to photo outfits.

This session was a perfect reminder that the most gorgeous images often come from keeping things simple and letting you be the focus. Let me explain.

While you might want to go on a lingerie shopping spree before your shoot, you also might want to shop your closet. Consider this your invitation to keep things as simple and effortless as you want! Think about wearing a sweater and scrunchy socks! A borrowed button-up shirt. A simple silk nightie.

The looks for this session below were intentionally minimal and effortless. She opted for a favorite oversized sweater paired with socks to create a cozy, at-home feel that felt real. A delicate lace slip added softness but it wasn’t overdone. Then, a simple black set brought in contrast to her gallery. But on the whole, it is a great example that you do not need layers, straps or garters to create something powerful. Even bare skin and “regular” clothes can capture that feeling you’re after.

So when you’re wondering: What to Wear for Your Session… think simple, first.

Now, if you LOVE the idea of buying a new VS set or placing an order from Savage Fenty… please don’t let me stop you! I love the three-piece strappy & sexy set just as much!

But, if the idea of shopping for new outfits feels stressful, or just not like you… here’s your reminder. There is almost always something in your closet that already works beautifully. Your favorite sweater. A well-loved tee. A pair of denim shorts you feel good in. (Pro tip: go topless with those!) These pieces already carry comfort and familiarity, and that shows on camera too.

The goal is never to dress up as someone else. It is to show up as yourself. Outfits should support the experience, not distract from it. More often than not, my clients are surprised to find their favorite images come from the simplest looks. Because in reality, we are to capture you. And there are so many “right” answer to what to wear to your session.

At the end of the day, when you feel comfortable, seen, and at ease… the images reflect that beautifully. It is you we are focusing on, always.

And, if you ever need advice, suggestions or just someone to review your outfits, I will always be just an email away for my clients!
